I Wish….

I wish….

I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller….
Ha ha ha, just kidding. If you know, you know, you know?

But really, I wanted to talk a little bit today about wishes and regrets. Because we all have them, don’t we?

I wish I had a million dollars.
I wish I had a better house.
I wish I had stayed in school.
I wish I was more successful.
I wish for world peace.
I wish for there to be no hungry child.

I wish, I wish, I wish…

But alongside wishes, there are also regrets.

And regrets?
Regrets will eat you up and swallow you whole if you let them.

I regret not calling her sooner.
I regret what I said to my mother before she died.
I regret not saving more money when I was younger.
I regret staying in that abusive relationship for so long.

But here’s the thing about wishes and regrets…

Wishes tend to align with hope. They lean toward the future. And when you say them out loud, you’re putting them into the universe. Whether that’s through a conversation, a text, an email, a social media post, or if you’re so inclined, a prayer.

Once spoken, a wish becomes a living thing.

Kind of like the fuzzy seeds of a dandelion. Once they’re released, they drift and travel until they find fertile ground. And when they do, they take root and grow into something real. Sometimes in ways we never expected.

Regrets, though, can root us in place.

When we constantly replay them, we get stuck there … trapped in old moments, old pain, old versions of ourselves.

But what if we treated ourselves with more compassion than contempt?

What if we spoke to ourselves the way we would speak to our best friend instead of constantly chastising ourselves?

What if a regret could become a lesson instead of a life sentence?

What can we learn from it?
How can we turn it into a wish for the future?
How can we use it to grow instead of staying buried beneath it?

So… what do you wish for?

Or, if you aren’t there yet… what do you regret?
